Throughout my career, I have been on the forefront of pushing innovation and embracing what new technologies and standards can bring us. Here are a few of the key achievements to establish my position as a thought leader.
With the early days of the public cloud, there were a lot of disruptions to cybersecurity processes around cybersecurity investigation. I was certified on cloud security (CCSK v2) as early as 2010 and in 2011 developed a series of forensics processes for various public could service providers (CSP).
In 1996, I developed the first web application to do network billing by integrating a database to the brand new world of HTTP and the browser.
In 2002, I developed a way to get a Visual Basic application to pull data from our IMS databases running on OS/390. It was done with a combination of CICS screen scraping and using a SQL mapper to a hierarchy database.
As a practicing architect throughout my career, I have worked on various architecture domains from infrastructure to application to cybersecurity and enterprise architecture. It would be accurate to say I spent the Majorie of my career as an IT architect.
As a certified AWS architecture (Professional), I have developed systems using fully cloud native technologies such as serverless technologies, containers, Databases-as-a-Service, etc.
As an early proponent of Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) in the early 2000 to the micro services architecture we do today, I have been at the forefront of services design working on standards, policies, and the governance of such architectures.
As an early adopter of Hyper Converged Infrastructure (HCI) since 2015, I have worked on the evolution of the data centre to a private cloud ecosystem with the implementation of many Public Cloud technologies like "Security Groups" and Kubernetes direct deployment (without deploying a operating system virtual machine).
From DevOps to DevSecOps to DevSecFinOps, I have been actively working in integrating various aspects of the pipeline such as the integration and automation of testing capabilities (both functional and security) By integrating FinOps into the pipeline, I have also achieved big cost savings for our cloud spend.
Having been involved in Cybersecurity for almost 20 years, I have worked through traditional network perimeter defence to newer concepts of Zero-Trust Architecture, serverless and contain security and large scale SOC operations.
As Director, Government Cybersecurity Operations at the Government Technology Agency of Singapore, I was responsible for the monitoring and response to cyber threats to the Government. In this role, I evolved the response capabilities of the team to expand to mobile and cloud incidents.
I have the privilege to be appointed to the Local Expert Panel for the National Research Foundation to help the country make decision on Cybersecurity research areas to fund and to build up the cybersecurity capability of the nation.
As a Senior Adjunct Fellow at the Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD), I have been developing classes on Cybersecurity Architecture, SOC Design, Threat Modelling, Cyber Crimes and more. I was also the 1st Asian (race & region) to be a featured instructor on Cybrary.
Having always been on the forefront of cyber technologies, I am always exploring ways to improve the cybersecurity posture of the organisation. I was among the first to deploy many new concepts like MXDR, mini-sandboxing technologies, private circuits to secure location for "Work-From-Home"(Pandemic support) situations.
As a certified ISO27001 Lead Auditor, I have conducted security assessment for large organisations and also researching Compliance-as-Code (CoC) technologies.
Certified in various cloud certification, I have led effort to design and move systems to the cloud (public & private) using cloud native technologies.
As a Social Business Evangelist, I have advised many enterprises on the power of using social media technologies to improve productivity.
As an active mentor, I take interest in helping others achieve their career goals and help lend my experiences to help them in making decisions alone their journey to their goals.
Exploring the new world beyond classical computing, I am co-teaching a class in Quantum Computing Fundamentals at the Singapore University of Technology and Design.
Throughout my career, I have been involved in launching various e-commerce platform from online event management in 2000 to online selling of eyewear in 2016.
